Today could probably go down as first early evening walk of the year. The sun was already setting in a cloud clearing sky as we walked up the road
and had disappeared below the horizon just as we stepped into the woods. It was cold and windless but there was still plenty of light with a sliver of moon hanging overhead, a magical atmosphere, The snow from last week was more or less gone, apart from tiny little splashes in cold corners and the grass and fallen leaves cushioned our steps. It was the kind of quiet you didn`t want to disturb.
Once we were out of the woods, the sun threw a last light show to guide us home
though we could have kept going another half hour or so without needing torches.
(And first snowdrops and very tiny tips of crocuses and first early daffodils spotted in the garden - may be pushing their luck a bit....)
