Dutifully did all the weekend chores this morning, aware that the sky was slowly turning from a bright, clear blue to a milky white, the high cloud diffusing the sunlight but not noticeably reducing the temperature.
It was bone dry on the road and a mixture of crunchy, sparkly snow in the woods where the sun hadn`t penetrated with lots of green patches where it had.

Beautiful light and crisp air but perhaps most striking of all the silence, not a breath of wind, only the occasional piercing cry of a buzzard overhead.
Best of all didn`t need to be mummified in layers and layers of clothes: no over-trousers, hats, gloves or thick woolly sweaters. Spring is definitely lurking somewhere nearby.

Thought we were going to get ambushed by a blizzard as we set off this afternoon with a freezing wind slicing straight at us and thick black clouds apparently heading our way. Battled on nevertheless into the shelter of the woods where it was a wild and wintry soundscape of excited, cawing crows swirling in and out of trees which rocked backwards and forwards, creaking and groaning where bare trunks grated together or swishing and swooshing, sounding just like a turbulent sea.
And we`d escaped the storm unscathed as we emerged from the woods to see a pale, very-nearly-full moon suspended in an an ice-blue sky, the wind still fierce but at least assisting us home.

Sparkly, snow-crunchy, sunny morning, perfect winter walking.

Been a couple of weeks of squeezing in the walks between work & weather, last week quite a contrast to today with the sap if not exactly rising at least stirring, lots of green and prettiness

which today is blanketed in the white stuff again.

Somewhat amazingly Glasgow was dry this weekend, at least while we went to see Will Varley* and the sparky Xylaroo** at King Tut`s on Friday though Crieff the next morning threw a small blizzard our way, all the better for being viewed from inside Delivino`s*** with hot coffee and a freshbaked scone. :)
