Sunday 27.09.2015

So peaceful this afternoon it was like the woods knew the still air and warm sun can`t last and were making the most of it - basking in it even. Butterflies, flies, midges all out in force, the birds quietly chittering away with a buzzard overhead just about raising the energy to call out occasionally.

Same place but completely different atmosphere on Wednesday. Though dry overhead it had been raining. Feet soaked through within a minute of stepping off the road, lichens the brightest thing in the overcast light

which then put on a late evening show as the sun sank beneath the clouds on its way to the horizon

before disappearing altogether,

leaving a waxing moon hanging in the cold air.

And then on Friday the main feature was the enormous sky, rammed full of clouds some of which were definitely close enough to touch.

Already been back a week from the Cotswolds, another place of big skies,

autumn colours

but also little surprises in amongst the trees.

Sunday 13.09.2015

The sky was the star of the show today: layer upon layer of clouds, mountains of them in places, shifting and swirling, against a royal blue background. Couldn`t take my eyes - or the camera - off them.

Would have loved to try and climb aboard the nearest ones but settled for a good long tramp in the woods: warm, heart-achingly lovely and an excellent way to get (most) things in perspective. :)

FRIDAY 11.09.2015

Wild and wonderful this afternoon: September in another guise. Sun still warm but a strong wind that sends the clouds scudding over, the trees thrashing around, the backdrop still green with flashes of purple thistle, pink rose-bay willow herb, dandelion and the burnt orange of rowan berries.

The bees are still doing their best

but the geese are beginning to look up to the sky and there`s a definite end of summer feel to things.

Tuesday 8.9.2015

September mist early this morning which lingered for most of the day but the sun dropped below the cloud this evening making for long shadows and that quintessential autumn light.

Beasts still out, all jostling to have their pictures taken, what divas they are.

They cantered off eventually as the mist began to roll back in: September can be the best of months.

Sunday 5.09.2015

Back in the woods on a perfect early autumn afternoon: fresh breeze, warm sun, blue sky and that poignant sweet and sour scent of nature beginning the slow retreat to hibernation and regeneration. Not that there were many visible signs - only a single yellowing leaf

and one lethargic bee.

Taken best part of a week to recover from the fun, frolics and glitter - especially the glitter-fest which is @ShambalaFest* - of stewarding for Oxfam. In fact exactly a week ago, as I write, I still had half an hour of my last shift left, on a fire tower overlooking the festivities.

All weathers, all temperatures,

a dragon called Elsie (naturally)

amazing food

acrobatics

- everywhere acrobatics

and a relatively high level of randomness, colour, noise, music....and, best of all, excellent company.
