Busy skyscape this afternoon, presaging the forecast storms maybe but still quite benevolent at this stage....

..and then there was the light and shade

and a convenient watering hole.

Calm out there just now but apparently we should be battening down the hatches.....

What a difference the wind makes.......this evening straight out of the East, absolutely freezing as we walked up the hill and watched the sun start to set behind the bank of cloud that was sitting on the horizon.

By contrast all was tranquility and birdsong in the woods, the dogs as pleased as me to be out after a day indoors. A flock of pied wagtails escorted us across the fields and a whatever-the-collective-noun-is of starlings wheeled high in the sky over some distant trees, deer and rabbits bounded out of our way and it was altogether a revitalizing hour or so.

Ice in the puddles and frost on the grass after a clear cold night but that meant a clear, cold and bright morning as well. Woods looking - and sounding thanks in particular to the woodpecker - very springlike.

Snowdrops in the garden just beginning to go over, daffodils ready and waiting and...catkins!

Perfect.

Saturday 07.03.2015

A very ordinary March afternoon, patches of blue in between the mostly grey cloud and still windy but mild enough to bring out all the grassy, piney scents of the woods and get the birds warbling away. Snowdrops, crocuses, lambs - and the geese have started laying - so Spring may be in the air but some of us remember the end of March 2013 :)

Yay and yippee - first post-work walk of the year. Up the road by 10 past 5, catching the last of the sun:

the teeth-chattering wind of the last few days had died down, the birds in the woods were practising their Spring evensong and all signs of last night`s snow had vanished - and there was still plenty of light left as we came back down the hill an hour later.

Lots of exciting plans for the summer being made yesterday and I`m sure the high spirits thereby engendered somehow increases the available physical energy - adrenalin maybe? Who cares. Could have walked for miles - will probably be hardly able to put one foot in front of the other tomorrow........

Sunday 01.03.2015

Just checked back that it was two years ago, at the end of March, that we got disruptive snow and gales so it may be the 1st today but we`re not out of the weather yet.........wind getting up as I`m writing and temperatures plummeting.

Yesterday on Bennachie the wind was pretty nippy and the view cloudy but it was worth the climb after a morning at work.

But then it always is........

No mention of books lately I`ve realised: will rectify that asap.
